BIOGRAPHY

Rob Prieto is a contemporary Puerto Rican artist celebrated for his vibrant paintings and murals. Known for his unique blend of spray paint, oil, and acrylic, Prieto creates visually compelling narratives that often center on themes of wildlife, flowers, hot air balloons, and elements of the natural world.

Born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, in 1981 and raised in Dorado, Prieto’s journey took an unexpected turn in 2002 when he enlisted in the military at the age of 21, retiring after a distinguished career in 2023. Throughout his service, he continued to pursue education, earning a degree from DeVry University in 2017, and later began working toward a second bachelor's degree in painting at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras.

In 2023, Prieto's art took center stage when he was featured as one of the emerging artists at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, marking a pivotal moment in his artistic journey. He had previously gained recognition for his participation in Art Basel Miami in 2016. In 2024, Prieto produced and led the innovative exhibition "Observa & Escucha" at Ojo de Tigre, which combined digital elements like music and video with visual art, pushing the boundaries of his creative expression.

Now based in Dorado, Prieto’s work has been acquired by numerous private collections, and his murals grace public spaces, enriching the cultural fabric of the community. His art not only reflects technical mastery but also resonates with a deep connection to his Puerto Rican heritage and the diverse beauty of the ecosystem.

ARTIST STATEMENT

In my artistic practice, I craft visual narratives that explore an imaginary world, where subjects and elements symbolize resilience, recovery, and perseverance. After a fulfilling military career, art became my sanctuary— a space for self-expression and healing. Each piece I create not only serves as a personal reflection but also guides me towards deeper self-discovery, purpose, and growth.

My work is deeply rooted in my Puerto Rican heritage, celebrating the strength, culture, and vibrancy of my community. Through my art, I strive to honor these connections while offering a fresh perspective on universal themes of endurance and transformation. As I continue my creative journey, I embrace new challenges and invite viewers to experience this evolving narrative with me, where every project tells a unique story and invites new dialogue.
